Or, is you family name Parker and you have historic family memorbillia to display? Here's an authentic vintage display case in which to safely and dust free house and display your collection. This glass display case measures 44" wide x 43 1/2" high x 23, and is in good condition, considering it is of circa 1950 construction. Beautifully made by the Columbus Show Case company, in Ohio.
The glass is intact and in usable condition, except top surface has many scratches from many years of use, and it would be easy to replace. The original three rear upper sliding doors are textured glass with ground in finger pulls, very nice, with specialty integrated locks (missing key) but the two lower doors are completely missing. They could be re-made as mirrors, or they could be made of 1/4 hardwood plywood. The rest of the unit is sturdy, especially the beautifully made brass framework. The cabinet was designed to be illuminated by a long single florescent bulb (not included), and the ballast is present, but the wiring needs replacement as a minimum, I was thinking of replacing and updating it with hidden LEDs. The original ballast is intact, and mounted below a thin sheet of what appears to be an asbestos as a heat shield. The on/off switch and the power cord and plug are missing. The name "Parker" , outlined in brass, skillfully made, would be illuminated by the bulb immediately behind it if it was functional. The cabinet has a staggered three rows of shelves, the top row is shallow, the second row sticks out more, and the bottom shelf is hardwood. The glass case sits atop a veneered hardwood base. The base has some minor scuffing and deteriorated clear coat, but is otherwise ok, it could be refinished or reveneered, or used as is with the vintage patina. There is a center rear lower drawer, nicely built with dovetail joints, and a lock. I do not have the key, but one could be made. The overall brass frame of the case is in good condition, it does have faded and deteriorated clear coat, which could be stripped, the brass re-polished, and it would be very impressive. On the other hand, you can leave it, it is very serviceable with the existing dull patina. I have included a photo of the cabinet tilted up on it's side so you can see the bottom, with the 4 castors.....Which lift the cabinet off the floor about 1 1/4. If you wanted this to sit on the floor, and removed the wheels, it would be then stand only 42 1/4 high.
