Luxury Fountain Pen Storage and Display Chests. Designed by a Collector for Collectors. This chest was built in the USA by skilled wood-working craftsmen in the 1940's or 1950's as a silverware storage chest for. It is made of solid Mahogany, measures 18" x 11 1/2" x 5 and weighs an impressive 11 3/4 pounds.

The exterior has been completely re-furbished with Jacobean stain and is protected by no fewer than 15 coats of hand-applied polyurethane. This is a serious example of mid-century routing craftsmanship using the finger joint method of joinery for the corners. The hardware is original or replaced with new.

The brass plate is suitable for engraving. The custom-built interior safely accommodates 22 pens in the main compartment and 22 in the drawer for a total of 44 and is lined with ultra-soft Silver/Gray faux suede. The pen slots in this case are a generous 7/8" wide on centers and 8 1/4" long in the main compartment and 8 in the drawer. The medallion is the semi-precious Green Ripplestone. To ensure the highest standard of quality, every process I use to re-furbish these elegant showpieces is completed entirely by hand.

If you or somebody you know deserve the best.. I could not find a quality, attractive and functional pen chest at an affordable price so I decided to make my own. Most of my cases are made from 30 to 100 -year-old vintage and antique silverware storage chests.

I restore and re-furbish them into exquisite one-of-a-kind fountain pen storage/display chests of superior quality at an affordable price. Please compare the features and value of my cases with the others on the market.

I start with silverware storage cases, preferably vintage or antique, because they are generally made with better materials and workmanship. First, I take the case apart and remove all the interior materials. Then I strip the exterior of any decades old varnish, paint or stain and sand it by hand down to new wood to prepare it for staining.

The stains and methods I use enhance the grains and the exterior is protected with at least 15 coats of hand-applied polyurethane. The case is then re-assembled. Because chests come in many sizes the interior is completely custom built by hand. The fabric is ultra-soft faux suede and the medallion is a semi-precious gemstone. NOT Mahogany "finish" or plywood or particle board.
