This was used in many general stores as a display and thread dispenser for the seamstress. Very unique case with 7 narrow long glass windows on two sides and well working sliding tambour (roll-top) doors on the other two. After some research I found that this cabinet is identical to the one seen in the John Wayne movie "McLlintock" on the store counter of Birnbaum's General Store. The Clark family built the first factory for making cotton thread for sewing in 1812 in Paisley, Scotland. In 1864, George and his brother, William, built a thread mill in Newark, N.
It became Clark Thread Co. T" stands for "Our New Thread, a six-cord thread developed by George for use with sewing machines. Every side is loaded from the top of the cabinet which has two large doors, one states white, the other black. At some point someone added early spools with multiple thread colors. This cabinet is a highly sought after piece and can be used as a end table, bed table or terrific conversation piece. Measurements are approx: 16" Wide x 20" Deep x 23 High.
Please note the worst flaw is that the top of one door has an edge that is slightly warped, this could be fixed I believe with a gradual weight. Three of the thin glass windows are missing. One little wooden knob is missing on one tambour door. The original labels have been worn off other than the ones under the top doors and interior. I actually prefer this to one that has been already changed out with new labels, this allows the new owner to leave it as is or add those themselves.
There are very little issues outside of a few minor scratches. Most notable one is a small nick at the bottom of a tambour doors. Believed to come from an old Wisconsin store. Please view all pictures closely as the pictures are a vital part of the description and condition of the cabinet.
Note that I don't charge extra for all the packing and materials. The item "Clark's ONT Revolving 4 Sided Spool Thread Rare Old Store Display Case" is in sale since Wednesday, July 31, 2019.
