Clark's Boilfast Spool Cabinet Mercantile General Store Thread Display Case
This is a collectible and interesting vintage metal mercantile display case or spool rack for Clark's Boilfast, meant to display their various colors of boilfast thread. It is painted a subtle navy blue with white coated interior and gold brand advertising details. Likely circa 1940s, definitely pre-1950s. It features a small storage area for each color of thread, labeled underneath with the visually precise and poetic names they had for each shade of their trusty spools of thread. This piece is really cool for a sewist or garment history enthusiast, as well as for anyone who collects old advertising or general store pieces. It would be a really cool addition to any sort of farmhouse decor in a home or retail space. Perfect for a vintage store to find a new functional use for a wonderful piece of mercantile history!
The display case is in good vintage condition with age-appropriate wear, namely scuffing and paint loss throughout and some pitting/oxidizing of the metal, mostly at corners and on the back. The visual and vintage integrity of the piece is still very much intact, and the text of both the advertising logo and the titles of the thread names are in excellent condition, maintaining semantic visual integrity. There was likely originally a glass sliding door as a cover to the case, no longer present. It measures 23 inches long, 14 1/2 inches deep, and 10 inches tall.
