Presented for your consideration is this neat thread (or thread spool) cabinet. Dating to the 1880s, the ribbon cabinet would have originally been in a country store to display spools of thread. The frame work looks to be oak with beautiful carvings along the edges of two of the sides.
These same sides have a top sliding, ridged door which easily opens and closes. These doors lift up to reveal storage compartments for that color thread. One side has black thread and the opposite side is for white thread. The remaining two sides of the cabinet have thin glass panels to view the different color threads through and a small door on the bottom.
When the door is open it has compartments for the thread so a person could grab the color they needed. The original decals are on each side of the cabinet. The sides with the rolling doors have large decals that read J & P Coats Spool Cotton. Top of the cabinet has two narrow doors on the sides and two larger doors in the center. These doors are believed to have been used to restock the thread. The cabinet is also rotating for easy access to all sides of the cabinet. It rotates 360 degrees and moves smoothly. The cabinet is solid and in usable condition. Would look great displayed with any general store memorabilia collection or a nice cabinet to use!
